INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING
What is Individual Counseling?
" I will not stand to the side and allow the music in my heart to fade away
and die. I will dance my own life song". -Lance Wubbels.
Individual counseling consists of one-on-one sessions between the counselor/therapist and the client. The objective of this session is to provide support to the client to achieve his/her own goals. When a client seeks help from a counselor sometimes he/she is able to identify what is the source of the discomfort, pain, suffering, anger, obstruction, lack of satisfaction, or other issue that is stopping him/her from moving on with life. Some other times, when a client does not recognize these conditions easily, the help provided by the counselor will foster awareness about this, and also about the client's strengths and opportunities to improve whatever is causing conflict in his/her life.
At DYOS Counseling, the relationship between the counselor and the client is guided by rigorous ethical and quality standards. The purpose of this relationship is to create a safe environment and a trustworthy relationship that will allow a client to explore his/her own strengths; find solutions to his/her problems; identify unhealthy patterns/habits that may lead to unhealthy outcomes to make modifications if they are needed; explore his/her fears, feelings, thoughts; question him/herself; explore beyond his/her own comfort zone; and challenge his/her beliefs. The outcome could be a client who feels happier, fulfilled, stronger, and self-confident, with a purpose in life. In other words...the outcome could be experiencing wholeness in life.
At DYOS Counseling, individual counseling is provided to adults, adolescents and children. Play therapy, Theraplay and Parent-child Therapy are the approaches used with children and adolescents at DYOS Counseling, allowing exploration to be less threatening. Gestalt therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Client Centered approach, and Mindfulness are some of the approaches used in individual therapy with adults. Regardless of the approach, individual counseling is here to support the client's growth in a safety way.
At DYOS Counseling, Group therapy is provided to children and adolescents to enhance social skills.
